NASA’s Voyager 1 becomes first man-made object outside the solar system

China has built the fastest supercomputer in the world.

China has
developed a new supercomputer Tianhe-2, which is almost twice as fast as the
current fastest supercomputer. The Tianhe-2 supercomputer which is nicknamed
Milkyway-2 operates as fast as 30.7 petaflops (quadrillions of calculations)
per second according to University of Tennessee professor Jack Dongara.

Electric lighting and display from electronic devices prevents proper sleep

It is an undisputable fact of nature that everybody needs a
good night sleep to recharge our body system for the next day. In fact, the
intensity of sleep you had will affect your body and mind’s performance the
next day.
It has been revealed that our body has two cycles; the wake
and the sleep cycle. The electric lightings disrupt the cycle by giving us a
second wind when our body clocks should be winding down according to
researchers.

Man kills longest Burmese python in Florida

Jason Leon is not a hunter nor an explorer, he is just a
gentle man who was driving late at night recently in Southeast Miami-Dade
County with his friend in his car.
He saw about three feet of a snake protruding from the bush.
He applied the brakes, got out of his car, grabbed the visible part of the
snake, and dragged it out onto the road.

Discovery: your runny nose could be leaking brain fluid instead of mucus

For anybody who has ever witnessed catarrh, the experience
to say the least was not a palatable one.
But what if your catarrh has been troubling you for too long
and what you thought was a serious catarrh is not even a catarrh but something
worse?
This rare condition occurred to Joe Nagy who had thought his
runny nose was caused by allergies, or hay fever. Only after 18 months did the
Arizona resident discover that it was a bigger problem.
“Broop! This clear liquid dribbled out of my nose like tears
out of your eyes,” he told My Fox Phoenix. “I go, ‘what is this?’”

After 98 years, Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity passes another test

More evidence has been provided by a pair of stars orbiting
each other nearly 7,000 light years from Earth that Albert Einstein’s theory of
general relativity is correct.
Bursts of energy were measured by astronomers from a neutron
star which is being orbited by a white dwarf star.
The gravity created by the neutron star, created a wrinkle in the fabric of space time in a way predicted by Einstein in his famous general relativity theory in 1915.

Dinosaurs are so big, and this is why…

The world’s oldest dinosaur embryos, some of which still
feature organic material, have been found in Southwest China, researchers
announced Wednesday.
This has given more answers to why dinosaurs grew into big sizes. The embryos are among the oldest embryos ever found. It is believed that it existed about 175 and 199 million years ago!

According to research, it has been shown that pesticides
used in killing rodents and insecticides used in houses for killing insects
could reduce the quality of sperm in men.
“Pesticides and insecticides used in controlling insects, pests, and rodents have harmful effects not only on a person’s health, but also on the sperm. Pesticides and insecticides exposure may affect spermatogenesis leading to poor semen quality.
It has been proved through the findings that many
environmental factors affect the quality of sperm, and these include pesticides
and insecticides which are damaging to sperm producing organs.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University wins Africa Geo-sciences competition

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, out of the eight Nigerian
universities that participated in an African geo-sciences competition has
emerged the winner of the competition.
We are brilliant now, aren’t we?
The American Association of Petroleum Geologists Imperial Barrel
Award was won by Unizik.
The University, located in the South Eastern part of Nigeria came first with a score of 79.33%. Helwan University, Egypt came second while another Nigerian university, Federal University of Technology, Akure came third.

Korean women has highest plastic surgery ratio

British media has reported that Korean women received the
most plastic surgery operation per head of population.
13 cosmetic surgery operations per 1000 people were done in 2011, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, which show that one in 77 people had undergone cosmetic surgery procedures.
One in five women aged 19-49 living in cities reported to have gone under the knife.
